We employed the engineering services of Gary Pedler of Bowden Consulting Engineers on a loft conversion project that we were instructed on in Tilton on the Hill. We found Gary to be very accommodating, easy to work with and efficient from the start. Gary came to our office and we briefed him on what our client was hoping to achieve from a conversion of their loft space. We talked through some design principles and the issues that faced the conversion project. This was at the time a trussed roof loft space, with issues compounded by there being no intermediate cross walls for support. From our briefing, Gary visited the house and took a look at the existing space for himself. Whereas many engineers would work from plans and drawings provided to them by the architects, what makes Gary stand out is his interest in the design project as opposed to the ‘job’ being one to be created on a flat piece of paper. Gary came back to us with various options to discuss for the conversion and we worked through these to decide which would suit the project best. The project was created and we worked with Gary on issues such as the steels needing to be designed and created in a modular format rather than as one piece and the addition of a step into the space, which in the finished project simply adds to the design by naturally creating a break in the functionality of the space. Gary affirmed his interest in this as a project by returning to the house to see the finished space as opposed to moving on as soon as his input was complete. The conversion as an end result of this project is utterly stunning in no small way due to the efforts imparted by Gary from the outset.

We have used Bowden Consulting Engineers on a number of our domestic builds and it was our pleasure to be involved in the foundations and exposed masonry wall for their new office. The ground dropped away at one end of the building and the design called for an exposed curved concrete structure. With the assistance of the in-house Structural Engineer, this was achieved by installing a curved plywood former and building the concrete up in increments. We used Bowden Consulting Engineers to check the condition of the lighting pole for Oundle town Christmas lights. BCE carried out a visual inspection and calculation review of the pole giving it a clean bill of health. We found BCE's approach to be professional, practical and prompt.

When contracted to complete the repair works to timber staircase in a Grade II listed building just outside Market Harborough, we employed the skills of Bowden Consulting Engineers to develop a scheme that would discretely offer support to the staircase and prevent further settlement.

Gary achieved this with his design and the repair was completed ensuring that no evidence of the support was visible. We have worked with Gary Pedler of Bowden Consulting Engineers on many projects and have asked him to provide structural calculations and details on projects varying from providing scaffolding design, underpinning buildings and beams for new openings in buildings.

We have always found Gary to be efficient and it is great to have such a skilled engineer with a vast array of experience locally to where we work.

Have worked with Gary on several occasions and always found him to be keen to understand the building process and how things are put together.
