Description: Removal of Load Bearing Wall
The desire for a more open plan living arrangement is seen in any new build house but achieving this in an older property often necessitates the installation of supporting steelwork to support the first-floor structure over the enlarged ground floor opening.
The first thing to establish when considering removing a load bearing wall is whether it is load bearing or not. Sometimes it is apparent due to the buildings age and nature of construction and often some exploratory investigation maybe required but the advice of a structural engineer should be sought, and arrangement made for a site visit.
Once the need for a supporting steelwork is established then the necessary calculations are undertaken to specify the appropriate steel size and this information is passed onto the Contractor who will install it.
Our calculations and details are also forwarded to Building Control for checking and on completion of the works a Building Regulation Certificate will be issued.
Bowden Consulting Engineers have provided calculations and details on countless properties across South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire and a typical example is given below.
Testimonial: Matt Tattersall – Builder
I have worked with Gary on several occasions and always found him to be keen to understand the building process and how things are put together. As a builder, there are practical onsite issues to overcome and it is good that Gary tries to understand this and he has helped erect steelwork with us on one of our previous jobs.
